My wife and I just closed on our dream house last month and I am finally getting around to the pool after reading up on Pool School. I am not sure of the previous maintenance of the pool other than the 6 floating puck pods I removed. Anyways the first several days of running the pump I had and still have after vac to waste this fine silt coating the entire pool. Its not sand because if I disturb it I will have a lingering cloud for a few hours. Then last week I noticed this dark stain appear in the deep end, I dont remember it being there when we initially looked at the house in January or a few weeks ago ( Water was not clear enough to see the main drain 100% so it may have been there). I ordered a K2006 kit and it came in the other day. My initial numbers were:

FC: 3.4
CC: 0.2
PH: 7.8
TA: 120
CH: 120
CYA 100
CSI: -0.26 (according to Pool Math)

I added some 10% LC to bring the FC up for my CYA, Added some Calcium Chloride, and MA to lower the TA my numbers last night were:

FC: 13.5
CC: 0
PH: 7.0
TA: 100
CH: 260
CYA: 100
CSI: -0.73

I tested FC again this morning before the sun came up and I was reading FC: 15. I assume I had an error in my testing the night before since the only source or chlorine is the liquid I put in. I am taking it day by day to get my numbers in check. I am glad to have found this community and look forward to gaining some knowledge!

Welcome to TFP! In hind sight, I would've encouraged you to perform a diluted CYA test just to ensure the CYA isn't actually higher than 100. Then perhaps do a partial water exchange to help lower the CYA a bit to a more manageable level which might also help you get a ump on that SLAM Process. Good to hear you have a proper test kit now and are reading up on TFP protocol. It works. Let us know if your progress stalls or if you have any other questions.
