Hi Everyone my first Post......

Installed a new liner this year about a month ago.
16' x 36'with 3' to 8' depth retangluar pool
With the new liner I Figureed we go with Salt.
I Installed a RJ-45 myself seems to be working fine.
First time water test showed no chlorine and result was 0
Added Shock, in fact went through 4 gals of it.
Pool suppy place said we needed harderner which I added (I then went on line to research and found this amazing site)
Ran generator on super chlorine Sunday Night into Monday Night.
This morning test results: (Pool Suppy House)
FAC: 0
TAC: 0
Salt: 3000
CH: 200
CYA: 30
TA: 80
pH: 7.8
Acid: 1 (Acid Demand)
Copper: 0
Iron: 0
Pho: 300
Pool is clear no algee.
They recommend 1 lb and 10oz of Dry Acid
I have the generator running at 65% today, cloudy skies
Is this correct?
Seems like evry time I go there I need to add something to the water, LOL they like to take my money.
I did order the TF 100 so I'll be able to do my self.

Did you first put enough liquid chlorine in the pool to get it to your desired level before turning on the SWG?

Salt water generators work too slowly to bring a pool up from zero to x amount. You have to do that yourself first.
Then the SWG works to *maintain* that level for you. And that's something that gets tweaked over time/season as your FC needs change.

When you want an instant increase in FC, go ahead and just use liquid chlorine like the 10% chlorine they sell at Walmart in the pool section. TO use your SWG on superblast mode just uses up its limited lifespan. We try to extend it as much as possible.

How many gallons is your pool? Use the classic web version of pool math (found at bottom of page) to determine this. We'll then know if your SWG is sized correctly.

Do NOT use dry acid- it leaves residual sulphates behind which are damaging to the SWG. Use Muriatic acid instead.

No I should have the company I purchased the pool from said to. But was missed advised by the folks at the local pool supply. That’s why I am here after extensive reading and searching.

Per the math chart I have 19,000 gallons 16’ x 36’ rectangular 3’ sloping to 8’, I am a degrees engineer so I can get the pool volume close by measuring the slopes and angles.

The muriatic acid makes sense.

I did not add any CYA just a calcium hardener, 25 pounds.
So as you see on the pool store test - they show 30 ppm CYA. If you have not added any, this pool has no CYA in it. Their test is not reliable.

Add 50 ppm CYA via the sock method. Raise FC based on CYA using FC/CYA Levels. Start your SWCG to match FC loss.

Once all the CYA is dissolved, test for CYA 24 hours later. Then adjust CYA to get to 70 ppm.

Not to be snarky against your pool store or anything (snort! :sneaky:) but vinyl lined pools don't actually *need* calcium.

Unless you have a heater which does require some. Do you?

Someone put salt in, right??

LOL, be Snarky, I like to save money.

No heater I didconnected a 15 year old oil heater.

When the pool filled I added 16 bags of salt, the Wal-Mart special Morton $6.48 a bag

Is there a perticular brand of CYA to get? Or any one will do?

So I finally received the TF-100 Test Kit.........
First round of Testing.........

Chlorine: 14 - I added 28 drops yikes, may have to redo.
CH 550
TA 70 water was blue to yellow (high Chlorine)
CYA 50
Ph 7.8

When I had the water tested a few days ago at the store I had similar results. In fact they said I don't need anything just tune down the generator

I turned the generator down for 70% to 45% may have to go lower, its an RJ-45, pool is 36 x 16 8' to 3'

I guess I'll drop it to 30% and see what happens. to note it's been raining all week here on Long Island

Pool volume is around 20000 gallons. Put that in your Signature. Really helps.

For a 2 ppm loss you need to run the SWCG for 4 hours each day at 100%. You may need to increase the amount generated when sunny. Or pick 3 ppm generating and let the FC build during cloudy times and drop a bit during sunny times. Just keep FC above minimum all the time.

Ok will do I believe the pool store was at 13.6 on the FC, have to check the results.

So I'll run the pump less.........

Everything else seems OK with the numbers.....
