My wife and I just bought this house and everything is falling apart as soon as we got the keys! This is literally Money Pit the sequel.
The salt cell was replaced last summer. The previous owners were running the pump 24/7 and the polaris at night and as needed. Salt level was 3200 when I first checked the Hayward Aquarite display. Salt Cell is a Blue works T-15 type.
I started just running the pump at night and I did not turn off the salt cell. I didn't realize that maybe I should. Then I noticed salt concentration dropping and then the inspect cell light came on solid and also check salt.
Called the pool guy, a loud faster talker that said only Hayward cells will work with the aquarite system based on communication. My scammer red flag alert starting going off.
I bought two new cells off amazon (1 year and a 2 year warranty) just to check. I replaced the cell and nothing changed. I did verify that I had the appropriate rev. of software and the logic is set for a T-15 cell.
I read that the thermistor could be bad so I pulled the pcb and checked. It measures 2 ohms (good) and there are no bad solder joints or scorch marks. Fuse is also good.
When I go to recalibrate, the instant salt level is 0.
What should I do? I could have missed something on the board. I check my salt ppm with a strip and it looks close enough to at least produce a reading. We have had storms and raining with the power going out, but I don't see any evidence of this effecting the unit.
I am about to give up and just use chlorine, which I really don't want to. The pool guy wants to sell me a new Hayward T-15 ($900) and a controller unit if that doesn't work. I will get a second opinion, but I'd like to fix it myself.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
