I have a new pump ordered and hopefully it'll be here soon. I bought a Pentair SuperFlo VS 1 1/2HP thanks to the advice in my other post. I also ordered a flowmeter to help dial in the RPM's needed to stay within my Sand filter's Max flow rate of 60GPM. We are also going to update al the wiring, boxes, switches/outlets etc. so we have a good clean install. We suspect the previous owner did the wiring on the old pump and it was a bit of a mess.
While I wait on the pump and flow meter, I want to be sure we're prepared and have a good plan for the install. I plan on putting the flowmeter between the pump output and the sand filter's input. I had considered putting a check valve ahead of the pump's input but read that it's not advisable for pools that get winterized. How sheltered should we make the pump, we had talked about building a portable enclosure that we could use to protect the new pump from the elements. How weatherproof are these pumps? This one has a program pad onboard. The old pump is open to the elements as is the sand filter, as far as the pad for everything the pump was sitting on bricks/blocks. I want to be sure I do what I can to help the new pump have a long life.
I'll take pictures of my current pad when I get home.
