New pump and accesories

Primered/glued the plumbing yesterday evening after work. It was my first time doing it so it got pretty messy. Going to spray can it to clean it up. Crossing fingers there are no leaks.

Filled with filter with half water then filled it with 325lbs of new sand! The laterals are in good condition and everything was installed without any hiccups. I placed a 1.5” PVC cap over the standpipe so sand wouldnt get in and shoot back into the pool.

Filling the pump as we speak with a garden hose!!!!!

Your pump/filter install looks very good. Not sure about your area, but most cities/counties have a code requirement to paint any exposed Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Even if your area doesn't require it, it is always a good idea to paint any Sch 40 PVC pipe. Its not just to "clean it up." Sch 40 PVC pipe is not UV resistant and it will get brittle over time. Eventually you'll notice the pipe discoloring to a brownish-black and the next thing you know: you've got a massive leak!

Thank you for this information. Planning to
pick up paint this afternoon when I get bleach.
Pool is almost there! 24 hours so far.

Side of the pool along fence was also cleaned up. Need to sift dirt as well to remove pea gravel/rocks the last owner installed.

Any recommendations for plants in this area?

Thank you for the pump recommendation. I am excited to see how this pump runs compared to the Hayward. I have been looking around and some say they average $20-$30 a month on electrical bills running the pump 12 hours a day. I plan to run pump on low RPM for extended hours as we have 3 pecan trees that shed notoriously. One of the pecan tree’s limb overlooks the pool. The $1200 quote to hack the limb off was very shocking.

A have two specific thoughts for plants. One is a coneflower that has a variety of colors. Echinacea "Cheyenne Spirit". https://www.jacksonandperkins.com/echinacea-cheyenne-spirit/p/v1892/

Here it is in my garden.

dbtgallery.php

The other is Liriope "Big Blue". This one is an 12+" tall ornamental grass, purple blooms in late spring. It will look like a lawn of sorts (foreground of above picture). It is a certain look, not flashy, especially if done as a full strip. You mow or weed wack it once a year in the late winter.

Both would be planted 12" on center in alternating rows, probably 2 rows for that space.

That's looking good. :goodjob:

Thanks!

Quick water test tonight:

FC 1.5
CC 1
TC 2.5
PH 7.3
TA 120
CH 200
CYA 0

Added cyanuric acid granules to a sock and placed in skimmer basket. Running pump for 24 hours, will check levels again tomorrow night. Out of cholorine, going to pick up more tomorrow after work as add as needed. Once FC and CYA levels are at normal values, will increase calcium.

Everything is going good so far!

In term of plants - you'll want something taller than they are wider. Some ornamental grass such as Zebra grass, Gold Bar Maiden Grass, or switch grass would work. They'd hide the fence nicely.

If you can do box woods in Texas - some green tower box woods would be nice there too. They are tall and wide so they'd be perfect for that space.

Thank you for your recommendation. We are looking at grass now and like the look of elijah blue fescue. Looks kind of cool, thinking some lavender too. We already have bushes along the pool but will cover the wall with hanging plants like ferns for now.

Painted the PVC with spray can flat white. Filled the area with dirt I sifted out and now it is rock free!!!! Not sure what to plant but think we will hold off on plants/cover. Those two single pane windows need to be replaced with double pane energy efficient windows.

Along the fence I placed weed liner with mulch/soil set aside for when we have time to plant. Ferns hanging from baskets for now.
