Hello,
I have some fairly basic questions about building a new pool. We currently have an old, large, kidney shaped pool in a poor location in the yard, so we are closing it. Currently debating having no pool vs. getting a small 8'X16' (Modpool like pool) or a pool kit 10'x20' (from some online store) or build one on-site. We only want a rectangular pool and not bigger than those dimensions - above vs inground doesn't matter so much. This will be in a different location in the yard, so not concerned about problems/benefits/issues that may be caused by the old pool. We are looking for a contemporary aesthetic (rectangular corners), clean straight lines etc., so some of the above ground rectangular pools (like Intex Ultra) don't quite meet that criteria.
My questions are as follows:
- seems like most above ground pool kits are oval/circular? Is that due to physics (weight of water vs. strength of the pool kit walls etc.)?
- what are the pros/cons of using a modpool/pool kit (all pool kits I found online are inground since we want a rectangle) vs building a concrete (plaster?) pool?
- isn't it easier to build an above ground pool say with 4 reinforced concrete walls than dealing with a pool kit etc.?
Other points, we are in the Bay Area (Northern CA) and this will not be a DIY project, so high labor costs are involved. I understand that an inground pool entails a new dig which will add to the cost - that cost adder aside, cost will definitely be a decision factor.
Thanks in advance.
