Hello all,

First time opening the pool of a home I recently bought. I had a pool company open the pool. I have attached photos of my system. Can anyone explain the system I have? Is it a decent system? When does a motor and components need to be updated/upgraded? Can a saltwater chlorine generator be added on to this? Can a heater be added on? If I want to add on a SWCG, but need to shock/treat my current system, should I get a non-salt test system for now?

Looking forward to learning more. I have a testing kit ordered and plan to undertake the SLAM process once I know more. Thanks all for your time!

You have a single speed pump.
A sand filter and a
chlorine puck feeder. The 1/4" black flex pipe out of the puck feeder is the output, I don't see the input line.
There are two valves that are open. You either have two skimmers or a skimmer and a main drain. Those are the pipes coming in to the pump. Pump goes to the filter, pipe out on the right of the filter is the return. The other pipe out of the filter is a waste line.
Filter is fine.
At some point I would consider upgrading the pump to a variable speed. Will save $$ and payback in a year or two.
Yes, you can add an SWG. There no Non-salt system you need. You just need to buy liquid chlorine for the moment.
No I would not do it now, just use liquid chlorine for the moment.
Is the pump running? I'd put the valve in "filter" and start the pump running.
Add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per day while you wait for your kit.

Thanks for the reply !

I had a pool company "open" the pool, but they did not specify what they actually did. The motor is running, and water circulating. I will have to change the valve to "filter", didn't notice that.
