New Pool Cypress, TX Pics

As of 8:30 am this morning we have WATER in the POOL !!! The pool finishing guys came early this morning at 7am and took the slurry vat away and started the acid wash. I was really surprised how quick the acid wash took. They basically did a power wash on the whole pool, travertine and glass tile to clean everything up. Then the guy poured a bottle of acid directly onto the pool, it effervesced briefly and then he washed the pool down with water and the liquid was pumped out into our french drain.

These guys were good, efficient and cleaned up after themselves nicely. Out of all the subs that have come to the house, this company by far has been the best and most professional.

Close up pic of glass bead finish in the spa, pics really don't do it justice. Once filled with water it will be better.

Pool filling with water:

For those that have built pools...I was wondering how does the spa fill up with water? Do I need to put in another hose to fill up the spa or will the pool water eventually fill up the spa through the plumbing...

We filled up the pool then put the hose in the spa and filled that up last. The PB told us to do this as he said it was better if the spa didn't overflow into the pool (so that any surface that got wet, stayed wet and there were no coloration issues).

Congrats!! Can't wait to see it full!

Readyforapool and vettechick I was really getting worried for a while with the color choices but now that the finish is done I can finally relax. It is all coming together nicely and like I envisioned. The pool design is meeting its functional purpose (for the kiddos) and design expectations from me and the hubby. I wanted something pretty to look at while outside relaxing and swimming.

Wow that looks good. It will be really awesome once the sun hits those beads after the water clears up.

Turned out really good.

Now get ready to brush and brush...sigh...

Vegaskid your build came out really nice too along with your patio addition. As you know we are having issues with our patio and Mr. PB knows how unhappy I am with the guy they hired. So far the pool build has been good. The main PB guy is a straightshooter and honest guy and hired some really good subs. He also builds in the city where they have some regulations and codes so he gets subs that follow code. This gives me some comfort. We had some hiccups along the way but communication has always been good with Mr.PB. He started out by himself and is growing and they have a new sales guy...so we encountered some bumps. Unfortunately, I can not say the same for the Patio builder...

Vegas kid how long did you have to brush for? this will be my daily arm workout till the pool is sparkly clear :)

Spray deck should be next. Mr. PB gave us an option to upgrade the spraydeck at his cost. I think he is trying to make-up for how unhappy I am with our patio build. When people are dishonest the Jersey girl in me really comes out in full force...and Mr. PB really got an earful from me for the last 3 days about Mr. Patio guy.

The spraydeck upgrade that was presented to us is basically a mix of 3 different spraydeck colors...it sounds like they apply the 3 colors and then swirl it or something to give a 3 dimensional look. I am not sure what it is called. Mr. PB is suppose to send an email with more details and any pics that he can dig up. Does anyone have this or familiar with this?

Darling Hubby likes the option of more than once color because he says one color is too bland and if the decks gets scratched they will be more visible. With the different colors you won't notice the scratches as much. I am in agreement with him but was wondering if the color mixing can mimic the travertine color variations in our pool coping?? If so then this would blend well with the pool coping.
Unfortunately our budget doesn't have room for travertine decking so travertine decking is out....we still have an outdoor kitchen to build.

I've never heard of swirling a spray decking material. I hope they do it quick, so I can see it. I may be interested in copying you.

Wow what a gorgeous pool! It is going to look *amazing* filled up! We are in the process of getting quotes now and are looking at Wet Edge. Do you know which type is smoothest? We have a bunch of kids with sensitive feet!

WetEdge has a lot of different product lines, if you are looking at the pebble lines that they have then the Satin Matrix is the smoothest with smaller pebbles. The Pearl Matrix uses larger pebbles. This is just my personal opinion and highly debated topic.

When we were looking at finishes we knew we wanted a pebble finish....then I found the glass finishes at NPT...:) There are so many pool finishes on the market your head starts to spin after awhile :). We finally narrowed it down to PebbleTec and WetEdge pebble finishes. The reason we decided on these two is that the applicators must be certified...granted there are no guarantees with certification but for us it provided us with some comfort. As you may know by now PebbleTec also has many product lines too. What helped me decide between the two was actually finding pools with the Pebbletec finishes (both the smaller and larger pebble mix) and WetEdge pebble finishes and touching them with my bare feet in water. I found that the WetEdge Pearl Matrix to be smoother than Pebbletec and WetEdge's Satin Matrix to be smoother than Pebble Sheen.

Also a couple of good pointers that the pool finishing company owner told me is if you have a geometric pool design with lots of edges (like ours) the Satin Matrix is best. Because it covers the corners the best and the smaller pebble will lay flatter and smoother than the Pearl Matrix. Our finish has Pearl matrix in it and when I rub my had across the finish it is very smooth, no jagged pieces of pebble sticking out. The guys really did a good job troweling the pebble in an making it compact. Once I get in the water with my feet I will get a better feel for it. Also he pointed out that toe tiles are not a good thing with the pebble finish because the pebble will stick up around the edges and not be as smooth. Also there's an increased risk of the tile falling out and then the pool would have to be drained and patched in that area. Not something I want to deal with. Our PB was going to put in toe tiles and we were going to use the same glass on our wall but was advised not to by the pool finishing guys. I decided to do what the WetEdge guys told me.

Since you are in the Houston area just PM me and I can tell you who did our finish. I did extensive research on the gunite and plaster guys in our area and think I have a pretty good grasp on who does good work for gunite and plaster. During our PB interviews if they didn't use the specific companies that I wanted I didn't choose them as a builder along with other factors.

Thanks cbink! this also helps explain the old clothing that was stuffed into the plumbing. There was water leaking from the plumbing returns (this is the water that was added when they did the pressure test) and they stuffed the pipes with old clothes and on the floor of the pool where water was collecting. I was wondering why they left old clothes on the bottom of the pool...I almost went down to throw them away.
Good thing I was too paranoid to step on the new finish and didn't pick up the clothing.

Kids were so excited to see it filling with water this morning. The youngest keeps asking when she can go swimming :). Now keeping my fingers crossed that there aren't any leaks and everything works like it should once things are turned on.

Pool is halfway there should be another day and a half or so. Some prelim pics with more water in the pool.

Pic is taken at an angle b/c it was the only way to get the whole length in the pic...this time my finger wasn't in the way like other pics :) Pic was taken this morning on a cloudy day. Its a little green at the deep end for now.

Close up pic of finish as it was filling.

So happy with the finish. Kids and I tested the pool with water in it and it was very smooth under the feet. Even the kiddos who tend to have more sensitive feet said it was nice and smooth. They were surprised all the little rocks could be so smooth feeling under their feet. They thought is would be similar to the beach.

Thanks for the info on WetEdge. Now, what is NPT? The builder we met with this week said that WetEdge and Pebble Tec used to be the same company but one broke off (can't remember which one) and formed the other company. He said they are basically the same pebble-like finish with some variations. Thought that was interesting. I didn't even think about asking the PBs who their subs are. I would be interested to know what you found out. LOVE your pool - the color is just gorgous!

I try and brush 2x a day. You'll notice the plaster dust but it's subsides after the first few days. Usually I do it right after I add chemicals.

I think I need to do if for a few weeks, but at this point in ownership I don't mind. Ask me again in a few months how I like brushing.

From my understanding the guys that founded WetEdge use to be a part of PebbleTec (others can correct me if I am wrong). Both companies have pebble finishes but the pebbles that they use in their aggregate is different. Because the pebbles used are different, e.g. different colored pebbles, size of pebbles, shape of pebbles etc they contribute to the final color variations and the feel. Also where the pebble is sourced between the 2 companies also differs. I personally found the WetEdge pebbles to be smoother and not as jagged as Pebble Tec's. Again this is just my personal opinion and a highly debated topic. Others can chime in too with more info.

NPT=National Pool and Tile. They have their own line of finishes too. I happen to find their jewelscape (all glass bead finish for pools) when I was visiting their showroom in Houston to look at tile and travertine coping.

Hope this helps. My head started to spin after awhile with all the pool finishes available, but I really like to be an informed consumer and not just take Mr. PB's recommendations.

Looks great! The green tint will clear up pretty quickly when they add chemicals and turn the pump on.

Lol, yep! I was fine brushing until it was freezing cold and windy outside, then it wasn't nearly as much fun! I brushed twice a day religiously for 2 weeks then once a day for a month, now I'm down to 1-2 times a week.

With the weather lately, I might end up doing it in the rain:-|.

After 2 days the pool is finally full. Now on to the spa fill.

PB dropped off all the equipment accessories and we found a Pentair Racer cleaner instead of the Kreepy Krawly Platinum. It was a nice surprise to see this. I know it's their latest model and there might not be much info yet but, I was wondering does anyone else have this and tried it out?

PB construction super will be out later this afternoon to start the acid start-up and addition of jacks magic magenta stuff. Pool finishing owner suggested that we add the jacks magic magenta stuff after the fill so I let Mr. PB know. Still learning how all this stuff works so I will be asking a lot of questions the next few days.

Some pics of the filled pool. This was taken this morning at 9:30ish on a cloudy day. If you notice near the back you get a mirror image of the back wall and the glass tile in the water. Hubby was really happy to see this in the morning. I knew the glass wall would reflect nicely but the last minute addition of the ribbon of glass along the side walls really adds to the beauty. Next task...getting the water sparkly clear with the TFP method.

Spa is finally filled!! We can start the fun stuff now. Gosh, I feel like a kid with a new toy:D, not sure who is more excited, the kids or me. Or maybe the hubby too, just got a text from him asking if I want to test out the spa tonight... he seems okay with the acid and says his skin needs an acid peel anyways, LOL.

Looks great! I understand the excitement of using the spa/pool but not of swimming during a wet acid start-up. We waited a week, the pH had risen by day three, the rest was because of the temperature. You'll have no heater being used I presume for some period as well?

I can't imagine my kids were more excited than I was last year at this time!
