New pool, cover pump?

We got a new pool this fall, this is our first "real" pool, not one of the cheap things from Walmart. Had the pool company winterize it, drained lines and covered. Its a 25' above ground. I need to get an automatic pump I can lay on the cover to keep water from collecting in the cover and pushing the water from inside the pool out of the filter ports and increasing strain on the cover itself. I seen a link to a wayne pump from another post, but this thing looks top heavy and is over 10lbs. Would that work ok for an above ground pool? Thanks

The two I see most people using are the wayne you linked to and the little giant. I have both, they way the same. The little giant is a little easier to throw on the cover, the wayne likes to land on it's side. The little giant uses a float to tell the pump to turn on and off, it does freeze up easily, and the wayne uses a sensor to cycle the pump.

I use the wayne more than the little giant.

So the weight of either one of these won't be to much weight on the cover or anything? Guessing you can tie a rope to the pump to get it into position and stood back up if needed to. Are they something you can just hook up and leave through the winter? Or do I need to just pump them off after rains and take the pump back inside.

As long as your cover is secured you should be fine. Yes you can pull them out with a rope, I think they came with one but I just toss it out and move it around with the hose.

I pull mine when there is going to be a hard freeze. I don't want it stuck one the cover frozen all winter.

Also check Facebook Marketplace. I see quite a few cover pumps on there. Once people switch to a mesh safety cover for their in-ground pool they look to sell the cover pump.

I've got the little giant. I just shove it into place with my skimmer pole, and pull it back with it's own cord. There are several reviews on it (maybe even threads here, I don't remember) about poor reliability. We're going into our 2nd winter with ours - no problems so far. Parts aren't readily available, but there are some simple maintenance items and repairs you can do if it quits - one involving a problematic weep hole that gets clogged. I did manage to freeze it up solid last winter and it thawed out with no issues.
