Hi veteran pool owners! My family and i are in the process of building a new pool. A long awaited dream, thank you Jesus šŸ™šŸ» and we need some advice from people who know what they are doing! Pool costs have skyrocketed but dont want to cut corners and regret it down the line. We are going with gunite and the builder quoted A lot for a waterfall so decided to wait on that but add a tanning ledge with bubblers. We have a few designs laid out, one is a freeform 104 perimeter the other is an L shaped 94 peremiter. I want a deep end, to be aboe to just jump in on hot days, do you recommend a depth? Also, we are considerinf a heat cool pump to prolong the pool days. Is it worth it? Any advice would be so greatly appreciated! There are just so many options! Below are the two designs we have viewed so far

I like the Freeform pool design. Also, that small leg of the ā€œLā€ on the other designs looks weird (sorry). Doesn’t seem practical.
A deep end for jumping needs to be minimum 6ft water depth and better if at least 7 ft.
I would ensure you have 2 skimmers and have each independently plumbed for better control.
You can search the forum for use of heat pumps. There are many challenges but can be worthwhile in some areas.

Thank you so much! I like the Freeform design as well 😊

Hi everyone! I have been scouring this website for weeks, looking at way too many post and have found so much awesome information. I know some of these questions have been asked, but and overwhelmed with options and could use your expertise! We are building a 101 ft perimeter Freeform gunite pool, 4ft shallow end to 8ft deep end. One of the biggest thing I cannot decide or find much info on is pebblesheen colors. I love the darker colors like ocean blue or turtle bay but we are pretty maxed out on price so going for that upgrade really isn’t something we should do. In the base colors we are kind of tossing around blue granite (although it may be too light) or black onyx (but may be too dark) . Do you guys have any pictures and experience with black onyx? I absolutely love the color of the water, but don’t know about straight black as the backdrop of the pool and tanning ledge, just seems like it may be too much. Our pool is full sun, no trees, but we have a tree line at the back of our property and definitely don’t want hidden critters slithering in 😬 and living on the gulf coast, not sure if the darker color would retain too much heat. It’s so confusing because my husband and I both love the darker color water. I do know there is a specific page to look at some pool colors but the ones we are tossing around are not in there. Also, we decided to stick with porcelain tiles but the smaller ones either teal or dark blue to save cost and not pay the price of upgrade, will we regret this. We are not going salt but are getting a heat/cool pump. Another upgrade that we have opted out of because of cost was lights in the bubblers, at $1900 a pop! We have 3 other lights in the pool, the ambience for the bubbler lights seems so beautiful! Do any of you have experience with these? Will I regret not getting those? I probably have several other things I’ve been researching endlessly that haven’t come to my mind. But whoever takes the time to read this and respond, I am sincerely grateful! Thank you!

They change the names so often most only last a couple of seasons. It'll end up aqua blue surf instead of surf blue aurora. :ROFLMAO:

Here is just a slice of some of the colors I see to give you an idea how much any finish choice will swing. Just get near the outskirts, of the suburbs, of the ballpark of 'your color'. You'll see it and 5703 others you love too.

We ended up going with Blue Granite PebbleSheen for our new build. It wasn't our first choice as we had wanted something darker but the premium costs on the darker colors didn't make sense for a pool our size. I'm happy with the way the color turned out. Would we like it a little darker? Maybe, but not worth the extra ~$5K they quoted us for the next tier. As for lighting, we have 3 of the Pentair MicroBrite lights and that's plenty of light. Our original quote included two so we had to pay $1,500 for the third. What's funny is that our feature wall has low-voltage lighting (we didn't know this was even part of the design) and that lights up the pool just fine so we probably won't even use the actual pool lights. As for tile, we went with a simple 6x6 tile that would blend with the Blue Granite PebbleSheen and I think the color turned out perfect. I'll try to post some pictures soon of our completed project now that we finally crossed the finish line.

Here's a few seemingly random pictures. They show a show from the side of the pool, two reflections of trees in the background which darken the appearance (these are not shadows). And pic showing water color and related plaster color. When viewed in full sun, you will have the lightest appearance, which is also when you tend to use the pool the most.

Thank you all for your replies! And that is a beautiful color! Our lovely PB, who is truly such a wonderful person, upgraded us to turtle bay. And still, I’m researching and now second guessing this choice. In some photos it’s the most beautiful color, in some it looks straight green and in shade almost black. Ahh! I need to stop thinking! lol šŸ˜‚ they start dig on MondayšŸ™šŸ» I am contemplating going back to the base color of blue granite!

That's every pool so stop beating yourself up.

The pics you see are a momentary snap shot of that moment in the season. As few as 5 mins later that pool may be an entirely different color. One cloud is all it takes. Lol.

It will be a bazillion shades, some, entirely sideways from your general color. Did you check the link in post 5 ? It's wild to watch on the daily.

Nice! That's a lot of progress for day one! I'm a little jealous of the size of your yard. Ours presented many challenges including a next door neighbor who did everything they could to stop our project.
Thank you 😊 We moved out to the country about 5 years ago and love it! It took a little getting used to as the nearest true grocery store is 20 miles, but we have 5 dollar stores! lol šŸ˜‚ We still have neighbors but everyone has 1.5+ acres, ours is actually one of the smaller yards. Something you may not be able to tell from the photos is that our yard is on a slight slope so they have to do dirt work around the pool, because of cost, we opted out of the stack stone wall surrounding the pool but have a small 11ft one to the rear with 2 sets of stairs. I’m having a difficult time envisioning what this will look like and am praying we aren’t walking up a hill to the pool!

What size pool is this? What is width of pool deck where chairs are and on right? Thanks! Looks great.
The pool is 12’x24’ not including the bump out for the steps. I’ll have to look at the drawings to see how wide the decking is. I do know the decking is 12’ deep at the back of the pool (where the chaise loungers are). I’ll try to post a separate build thread soon with more details.
