Guys I have gone through numerous posts and trying get myself ready. Right now my pool is being installed. Tomorrow should last day and I want to make sure I've got all I need to start.

So far I bought
- 6 bags of Morton Salt Pool Salt, 40 Lb Bag from Walmart ( I think I just need 5 for my pool which is 12x24 54")
- 1 Clorox Pool&Spa Salt Essence 5.5 lb Salt Pool Stabilizer
- 1 Clorox Pool&Spa Salt Essence 8 lb Salt Pool pH Reducer

is there anything else I need to start up ?

Can I use - TAYLOR TECHNOLOGIES INC K-2006 TEST KIT COMP CHLORINE FAS-DPD for my salt system pool and will I need any other testers ?

Thank you

Hi there Lukasny, congrats on the new pool.

Yes, that test kit is a fine choice. I would also suggest getting the Taylor K-1766 Salt test kit. I don't trust a device (the SWG) to be accurate when I want to know if I need more/less salt in my water.

I would suggest returning that Clorox pH reducer (dry acid) and instead stick with plain 31% Muriatic Acid. It works better, faster, and doesn't leave anything behind unlike the dry acid (sulphites). If your new pool is plaster, you'll be needing it often at first as the plaster cures.

Don't get hung up on buying Clorox branded products... we've had a lot of problems with that brand. From hidden copper in products (ugh!) to poor quality salt with metals in it staining folks pools. nnnYour SWG does not need specialized stabilizer. Get the basic stuff you can find at Lowes in the pool section, or Walmart.

So it looks like a SWG is installed- dont turn it on for a day or two after putting the salt in the water. Let that mix and dissolve entirely before turning the SWG on. THey get a little frazzled or confused when they get blasted with salt before its entirely mixed in the water.

Get some plain bleach to chlorinate with and take the FC up with until the SWG is up and running and can maintain your FC level.

Tell us more about your pool?

Yeah, there is a little pool supply trickery that caught you. Do you know what the difference between Salt water stabilizer and normal stabilizer is? The label and price. Pool companies LOVE to pull this trick, they literally charge more for the same product by putting a label on a product that says "salt". Same with the pH decreaser, just sodium bisulfate. The best part is when you get it in a pool store and they will claim that this 99.9% product is different than that other 99.9% product because it is specially formulated for salt pools. That 0.1% must be pretty special

Thanks for advice guys

YippeeSkippy - 31% Muriatic Acid is scaring me a little ( memories from chemistry class ) how much of it should be added ? do i have to add it at all in the beginning ? what else do I add to start my pool ?

Here's what I have in my setup
Pool - 12x24 54" ( semi in-ground ) with vinyl lining
Hayward AQR15 AquaRite Salt Chlorination System for In-Ground Pools up to 40,000 Gallons
Hayward CC15093S Xstream Full-Flo 150-Square-Foot 1.5 Horsepower Filtration Filter
Raypak Heater 206,000 BTU's NG ELE W/ Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchanger - 014938
Maytronics 2016 Dolphin E10 Robotic Swimming Pool Cleaner

I'd say take normal precautions with the MA, stand upwind, don't breath it, don't ever store or mix it near with bleach or chlorine products and you'll be fine.

You need to discover PoolMath, the app at the top of this page that will guide you in quantities based on what you input into the columns. The first column is what you currently *have* and the second column is what your target (goal) is and it will tell you how to get there by adding x chemical.

Make sure sure fill out the very top and the very bottom of the app, telling it how many gallons and type of pool, etc. There is even a part that will help you determine the gallons of your pool.

I forgot to mention that I also bought 1 Gal Pool Essentials Chlorinating Liquid.

Use PoolMath to check the amount of salt to add based on your SWG. I reckon your pool to be about 8600 gallons.. is that your expectation also?

Plain household 8.25% bleach may be cheaper than anything labeled for the pool- just do the math. You don't want any special "outdoor" or "splashless" or "scented" products, just plain fresh bleach.
