Just wanted to share some progress pics of the patio renovation. I know there are some pro builders on this forum and maybe they can take a look to see if the work is getting done properly.
Pool was built in the late 80s. Prematurely had new liner installed 2 months ago and had no plans renovating the patio at that time. Went ahead with the patio build after the fact . Pool had the old C style coping with red bricks on the patio. Several sections of the wood secured to the concrete was rotted so it was all replaced and a flat track installed. New concrete was poured around the pool wall with wire mesh installed to support the 12x24 ledgestone coping. Thinset was used to attach the coping and 1 side was completed yesterday. There was a fair amount of excess thinset that squeezed out under the overhang and on the pool wall. The builders used a sponge to clean any excess and do their best to remove any from the bead lock but they didn't go in the pool to do it. After they left I went in the pool with a sponge to clean any remaining material off the bead lock and liner and straighten the line the best I could. I was thinking they should have used tape but I don't know if that is right way to do the job. Any thoughts?
Almost all the ledgestones line up perfectly without any gaps expect the ones that needed to be cut. Are these gaps supposed to be filled with anything?
Im reading up on expansion joints so I dont know much. The patio base is RCA. Is the extra 1" of concrete that sticks out behind the stones done purposely?
The top edge of the stone is rounded and smooth while the bottom edge near the water is very rough. I was tihnking this can be grinded down with a masonry wheel?
Are the coping stones supposed to be sealed?
