Purchased a property this past Nov in GA. Property has an in ground salt water pool. Was advised to adjust timer to run pump 2-4 hours during coldest part of the night through the winter. We are new to pool industry. We have been removing debris from pool bottom using net and empting skimmer filter basket. The water is very clear. We purchased a 7-in-1 test strip kit and noted a couple levels were off. We were advised to get salt water test strip kit prior to putting in salt. We purchased several bags of salt and baking soda to correct pH & Total Alkalinity levels. We were advised to toss a couple chroline tablets in skimmer basket and pump filter to help with SWG on inital start up. Orginally very over whelmed being from IN and never owning a pool.

Welcome to TFP! First thing, please save the link below and get acquainted with the articles in it. It's a great resource. Be sure to obtain a proper test kit, either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006. Test strips and free local testing are horrible. Do not make major chemistry changes based on those strips. When you get one of those kits, post back with a full set of results and we can get very specific on what to do next. It's easy, but the proper test kit is a must. Also, never place tabs in the skimmer basket - too acidic. Always use a floater. :) Keep in mind that a salt pool (with salt water generator) requires a salt-specific test. We find that the Taylor K-1766 salt kit is very easy and reliable. If your SWG is operating properly, you should have no need to use chlorine tabs.
