New pool owners. Shell recently layed and installer back in 2 weeks to complete the concrete forms around edge.

We would like a 30x54 pad around the pool (pool is 16x35). Installers leveled the ground around pool and packed the stone backfill with excess fill dirt along the edges... but only in the 3 foot region they'll be installing the form. There's still a large amount of area that needs to be leveled with the pool. And for clarity, our property is on reclaimed mining land (from the 1950's)... so the fill dirt is nothing but shale/sandstone rock.

Do we need to remove that fill dirt and replace with stone backfill so we can add the full pad we want? And then, how long do we wait to lay the pad once the rock has been laid? Installers have been less than helpful with answering questions (that's another issue). heck, they even told electrician where to place the conduit for the connection boxes that are to be added to fence line on outside edge of pool deck... and now clueless we want a pad to go out that far.

I'm sure once have pool up and running, this newb will have further questions... but first things first.

Welcome to TFP.

I think no one knows what type of settling you will have on your reclaimed mine property. Settling can take years before the ground returns to an undisturbed state.

Were you planning to put rebar in the deck to structurally support it?

You need to consult with a soils engineer and maybe design footings set into the ground to support the deck. That is beyond installer’s expertise.

Had local excavator who's worked this area for years. He's going to remove all backfilled dirt and pack with 57 then run vibrating roller. He'll take all the dirt and push back against rock and cover with topsoil. Said we'll be good to lay concrete immediately.

His brother is mason. They're going to tag team. They've built foundations in this area for decades.

So that part is done. New questions to post soon on what pool owners say vs what pool company tells us. We're so lost. Lol
