My husband and I had a pool w/spa built after living in our new home in SWFL for one year. We have never had a pool before and know very little (I mean nothing) about pool chemistry. The pool builder took care of it for the first month with chlorine and minimal brushing of the new plaster, and told us to start with a pool service. We are having trouble with the PH and scale and our pool guy thinks we are “picky”. The builder came and added 4 gal of acid to lower the PH and get the scale off, but both times the pool service has come they have added liquid chlorine that has dissipated within a couple of days. The pool is supposed to get converted to salt next week (by the builder). We are totally confused and clueless.

Welcome to TFP! We can certainly help get you started. Two things to do right now:
1 - Make sure you have a TF-100 (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C test kit. It's a must.
2 - Update your signature below. See mine as an example. The details will help with future questions.

If all you have is a basic viewing (OTO) kit, you're only able to test pH and generic FC. The new test kit is much better for all tests including FC. But you should be able to test the pH now and try to keep the pH under 8.0. Use muriatic acid to control pH. New plaster requires it quite frequently.

For chlorination, stick with liquid chlorine. We'll watch for test results from one of those test kits. Then the road to easy pool care will be much better, Also use the link below. Great info in there.
