I have a brand new still in box Dolphin M500 for my new pool. [ Construction thread over here: New F/Glass build DownUnder - Adelaide - What have I let myself in for?... :)) ]

I decided to open the Dolphin box this evening to have a closer look at it.

Mine has been supplied with the so called Wonder Brush option.

Unfortunately one of the brushes has seem to have shrunk slightly (visibly smaller than the other three) and has almost gone stone hard.

The brushes still have their factory plastic bag wrapped around them but the one roller has gone real hard.

I wonder whether that roller's plastic bag had a small hole in it and the roller has dried out causing it to turn hard...????

Anyone else experience the same issue, Does anyone know if it will soften up when water is applied? It is so hard that I have hard time believing will soften up with water.

I seem to recall reading that once it gets wet it swells to normal size. I would try a Google search to see if that is true.

C,

Just put it in the water.. you are making this way too difficult... :p

When I received my Dolphin I thought that the hardened foam was just packing material and came within a microsecond of ripping them off... :uhh:

I am now not certain why I didn't, but tossing it in the water caused the foam to swell back up in about 30 seconds...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok - Thanks to you all.

I cannot use the Dolphin as yet as my pool floor requires a thorough clean by the PB so I should have those rollers wet soon...!

Regarding the drying out - It may be that they perish a lot faster with no moisture in the foam however how do you keep them moist during summer between cleanings???

C,

That was kind of my point... But I suspect there is a difference between drying out and turning into stone... :p

I do notice that they dry out when I don't use the cleaner for several days, but they don't turn to stone like when I first got the machine. I usually use it once a week or more, so it has to take longer than a week...

Thanks,

Jim R.

How would that even be possible? Are you not allowed to take it out of the pool unless you put it in a giant zip lock bag.. :p

It just does not make sense.

I don't have one for my M500 but storing them in a plastic bag is exactly what it says :)

"The Dolphin Wonderbrush Set is recommended for swimming pools with smooth ceramics and mosaic tiles. For use with Dolphin Supreme M5 and Liberty automatic cleaners. To prolong life of Wonderbrushes, NEVER let them dry out. Wrap them in a plastic bag to retain moisture. Please note this item cannot be returned after purchase per supplier."

I was at my local pool store this morning to pick up a check valve.

While in there I decided to look at their Dolphin spare parts and found some 'Wonder Brushes' hanging on their wall.

They were sealed in plastic bags but what I did notice was that most of them had condensation forming within their bags, so they must have some amount of moisture in the bag from new.
