Back in March the transmission on our 20 year old Ford Ranger died. Since then we've been using son Patrick's Nissan Rogue to do groceries, doctor's appts, and suchlike.
We had other things that needed to be done, so we got a second mortgage from Rocket Loans to pay for them and get a new used car (goodbye credit card debt!). We liked his Rogue so much that an SUV was top of the list.
Well, after much searching, we found our car! Metalflake black, 2014 Ford Escape SUV. Leather seats, climate control, power hatch door, 4 cyl 1.6 L engine. Enough room for a sheet or several of plywood. Power everything. Great review from Consumer Reports. Drives smooth and quiet. I've named it Snoop Dogg, because it has a kind of stoner feel to it.
I drove it around yesterday to get a feel for it, and it's so smooth and quiet I don't know what to do with myself! The Ranger had gotten noisy and the seats were not the most comfortable in the world. Snoop Dogg is the lap of luxury, quiet as a mouse, Transmission shifts quietly and smoothly (automatic), you can barely hear any road noise. New tires. I really like it.
The only drawback is it's black, and we're taking down the big rotten oak in the front yard (yay no more baby acorns in the pool!), so the car will be parked in the sun after the tree's gone. We plan to get the front side windows tinted to match the rest of the windows, so that should help.
So the Robinsons are riding in style these days!
