Need to switch inline chlorinator from trichlor to cal hypo tabs

I have an incline chlorinator that I've been using with trichlor tabs. I want to switch to a non-stabalized cal-hypo tab, but the store is warning me that I can't mix the two or even switch from one to the other or my chlorinator will explode. Just trying to understand, isn't there some way to clean all the trichlor residue out of the chlorinator and rinse it out or something to let me switch safely?

Try an experiment: clean it out as best you can. However you think it should be cleaned just do that and then do it again. Then seal it up and come back the next day, open it up, and take a big wiff of the air inside.

That'll give you the answer you're looking for.

You've been on TFP for quite a while, why are you still riding the tab train? If you need to replace your feeder to use cal-hypo tabs anyway, why not just rip out the old feeder and replace it with an SWG instead?

This times 1000! Why cal hypo? Having used many sanitization feeding systems commercially including cal hypo, trichlor, sodium hypochlorite, et al each one has its own deficiencies and difficulties. By far for a homeowner SWG is the way to go. What’s attractive about cal hypo to you that’s convinced you would like to convert to it?

Nope- gotta get a new dispenser. The explosion 💥 risk is very real.
Cal hypo is one of the worst pool chems to deal with & store.
What is your current ch & your fill water’s ch?
Using cal hypo for daily chlorination will increase your ch quickly.
The only way to lower ch is to drain & replace water.
Water replaced due to evaporation doesn’t lower ch.
many in your area already experience increasing ch levels due to replacing water lost to evaporation regularly without the use of calcium laden products.

I suggest you look into a liquid chlorine feeder or a salt water chlorine generator if you cannot/don’t want to manually dose your pool with liquid chlorine.
