The particulars of my set-up are in my signature. Nearly all of the equipment is something less than 20 years old, and the pump is dying the death of 1000 cuts
. The strainer basket is brittle (a piece broke off recently), the strainer lid was replaced and has cracks, the wet end housing has some cracks leaking water where it bolts to the motor side of the housing, and the motor screeches when it runs below 40°F. I feel if I start repairing/replacing components, it'll be a never ending process and I'll come to regret it.
So my question is, "any recommendations from the community on what to shop for?" Maybe some suggestions that are affordable "high end" or above minimally acceptable low end, and anything in between. Any discussion of brands and designs is welcome.
I'm concerned about the motor change. I don't know how to compare the old 1-speed 2.0HP motor vs a newer, redesigned unit. I'm sure it might save some electricity, but I'm not sure about the wiring to the iAquaLink, and how the speeds should be set up with the pool vs spa configurations.
My brother (in HVAC field) expressed concerns with Electronically Commutated Motors, but I'm not sure if that's just related to cost or flexibility (in his line of work).
I'm on a budget right now (aren't we all?), but I'd rather not wake up in 3 years and wish I'd spent more money on a better unit.
Anyone with recent experience on a similar scale to mine have any good ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
