Need to raise CYA quickly new pool fill

Can I use shock to raise CYA level quickly?
Vinyl ABG 30’ pool. Chlorine
I have been dissolving Stabilizer in sock but it takes much longer.
I read you should wait 24 hours after the Stabilizer has dissolved to retest CYA level.
Yes, I do squeeze sock throughout day. It helps.

Hello from Oklahoma.
I have been using TFP information for years and find it to be extremely helpful. Especially Pool Math.
We replaced an existing ABG pool with a new pool.
30’
ABG
Vinyl Liner
22,500gallons
Sand Filter 1.5 HP pump
Chlorine
TF-100 test kit
My question:
Since it is a new fill can I use granular shock long enough to raise CYA level quickly to help with FC level.
I have been dissolving 2 lbs of Stabilizer a day for the last 2 days using sock method to try and achieve a level of 40-50. It’s taking too long I feel .
Recommended to not CYA test for 24 hrs AFTER putting in CYA. Therefore I won’t be able to get an accurate test for roughly another 48 hrs.
How often should I be testing FC during the day while raising CYA level?
Sun + Hot Temps + little CYA = Chlorine levels hard to maintain.
once I get Stabilizer established I will then test FC once a day.
Is the FC target for this pool a 4 ?

Depends on the granular shock as some do not have CYA in it. Look at the label. Also, use of pucks or shock is a very slow way to add CYA. Best to use direct stabilizer.
Look at the chart - FC/CYA Levels and insert the target CYA = so if that is 50 use FC target for CYA of 50
With little to no CYA, I would test in the morning and then again in afternoon as FC will burn off quickly.
Ensure your pump is running and brush to mix the CYA. Do a test after 24 hours but do not add any more, then test again next day.

It takes a minute to mix but as soon as its mixing, it's helping.

I just did 2 lbs today. I walked away for 39 mins and came back to find it mush. I shook the crud out of it and it came right out.

To answer your question, yes, dichlor is just chlorine and CYA. But it will raise you pretty much 1:1 and your FC would be too high.
