Need to fill large gaps under pool apron

I am having a new liner installed soon…the person doing the work commented about the large gaps underneath my concrete apron and said I should fill it in.The pool is 15-20 years old and the gap has always been there- but I think it has gotten bigger…The landscape company I called recommended I use either “road base” or decomposed granite as a filler. Is that correct?

I would reach out to a stone mason with concrete experience. The erosion is rather extensive and you want to get it right, or risk the entire deck heaving and cracking.
