Happy Friday everyone! This AM, I did a full test on my pool. In my signature line, there's a link to my test/logs, but also including a couple of screenshots. I'm still dialing everything in since the renovation. I've had to keep adding CYA bit by bit so not to overshoot, and more is dissolving in there right now. So ignore CYA and I've already added some liquid chlorine so no concerns there right now either.

Main confusion:
  • Looking at the second image, do I want to follow "Recommended" or "Ideal"?
  • How does "Recommended" and "Ideal" ranges differ from the Target CH of 450?
  • The guy at Pinch A Penny said I want 250 CH and those other numbers are way too high. I did not follow his advice.
    • He offered something called pH lower or something like that, but it did not have the active ingredients that TFP suggests so I didn't get it.
    • Pinch A Penny does not have any Baume and only has the strongest muriatic acid (not 14.5% or 29%). Get it online?
  • If you look through today's test results, I need to adjust pH, Alkalinity, and Calcium Hardness, and I'm a little rusty on how adjusting alkalinity and pH can seemingly compete with each other.
So I just need a little advice to ensure I'm on the right track regarding ranges, and regarding pH, alkalinity, and CH. Trying to get the pool perfect! Thanks guys!

Since you aren't too concerned about the FC and CYA right now (in-progress already), yes, I would add a bit more calcium to get the CH to at least about 250. 350 would be ideal, but at least over 250. You can always add more.

Try to keep the pH from exceeding 7.8 (scale). Muriatic acid is your best tool for that one.

For muriatic acid -
31.45% is equal to 20° Baume.
14.5% is equal to just under 10° Baume (9.8° Baume).
