I have been trying to SLAM our pool for nine days now. The water is currently cloudy green. The CYA is 60. Unfortunately I added too much due to not thoroughly dissolving the first addition. The FC was 21 this morning. Admittedly we have not cleaned the pool everyday. I have been backwashing the sand filter when I feel the pressure go down. Our PSI reader thing is always zero, so I’m assuming it’s broken because we get great sucking power through the skimmer and the jets back into the pool. It’s getting demoralizing to not see clear water yet. Am I doing something wrong, or do we just stay the course. I am testing and adding chlorine a few times a day.

Hey! Welcome to TFP!!!

The fastest way to end a SLAM:
1) test and add Liquid Chlorine every 2 hours. Any longer will make the SLAM longer.
2) brush, brush, brush
3) Yes, if you feel your returns flow slower, backwash. Would be good to replace the pressure gauge. That is a smaller system, you might backwash every 2-4 hours.
4) Sand filters take the longest to clear a slam.

You are doing good! Does the water look better? Pics always help, we can usually tell what stage you are in from the pics....

Thank you, the water does look better. I was afraid to backwash the filter that often, so I’ll do that. As for brushing, I’ve done it a couple of times. It looked dirty on the sides, but looks and feels clean now. Should I still brush?

I’ll start testing every two hours and see how it looks.
