Some background before I get to my current issues:
As the weather got warmer, I noticed that I was having to add more and more chlorine. Did an OCLT - loss 7ppm. Started SLAM on 5.25.22
Thought I passed all criteria - was wrong so now I am in my second SLAM attempt.
Starting Chemistry #'s FC 9.0; CC .5; PH 7.4; ALK 80; CH 300; CYA 40
TH 6.2.22 Started SLAM - Tested and added hourly; Brushed and vacuumed
FR 6.3.22 OCLT: -2 ppm; Tested and added hourly; Brushed and vacummed
SA 6.4.22 OCLT: +1 ppm ???? Thought this was probably human tester error; Tested and added every 1.5 - 2 hours; Brushed and vacuumed
SU 6.5.22 OCLT: -3 ppm; FC @14 - Added 3 cups 12.5% Liquid Chlorine @ 6:20 am; Tested @ 8:46 am: I tested 3x because I just couldn't wrap my head around the results: #1 FC - 19.0; #2 FC - 19.5; #3 - FC - 20.0; For test #3, I used my non-chlorine vial thinking that I just might have build-up in my chlorine vial. My testing reagents were purchased in April - my current R-0871 was purchased in May to replace all that I have used. I am going to have to buy more to get this SLAM done.
I'm committed to getting through this SLAM, but if I can't test correctly, I don't think I can do it. Is there any other reason that my FC would go up that much? Maybe someone is secretly adding chlorine to my pool???
Besides the high chlorine demand - I have what I think is staining on the bottom of my 22 year old plaster - I have tested it with Trichlor and Dry Acid - no changes. When they first showed up, I tried to scrape something off but nothing came off. I am planning to try that again today. There are also some areas on my walls that are slick - nothing comes off them when brushed. Lower part of tiles seem slick to me also. So I am continuing to brush these areas vigorously. I have also pulled the light, a few particles of black stuff came out, and what appeared to be plaster particles and plaster dust were in the niche. Light was exceptionally clean but it was brushed along with the niche. I think the black stuff must have been between the collar and the pool wall, not in the niche.
Staining probably caused by things used by me and pool people prior to going to the TFP method.
Any input would be appreciated even if it is just talking me off the ledge I'm on.
