The trash pump should work for getting the sloppy/muddy stuff out. You will need to dig out the sticks and any other larger solids and make the mud into a slurry and keep it mixed up. Do you have a place to pump it to? Not sure how the neighbors might feel about it ending up in their yard or see trying to run down the street. Also be prepared to unclog the pump numerous times. And be careful getting from the shallow end to the deep. If you don't have a place to pump to, maybe a cesspool type vacuum can suck out most of the sludge and dispose of it. Also look into vacuum excavation, just be prepared that it will likely try to suck up the liner too is not careful.
