New to looking after pool. Having trouble with cloudiness. Chemistry is perfect as per pool store water test. Sand was replaced this year. I’ve added floc, clarifiers etc - have vacuumed every day or so but still can’t see bottom of deep end. I’m getting a lot of debris from jets when vacuuming so I vacuumed to ‘waste’ and STILL got junk shooting out of jets. This is a 110,000 litre inground pool - Hayward multiport pump. Can anyone help me get my pool cloud-free? Thanks for any help

That's probably the issue right there. Pool store testing and recommended levels are generic and often times really awful. I would first start with obtaining your own test kit - a Taylor K-2006C. If you have access to mail down south, a TF-series is outstanding (link in my signature).

Cloudiness is often a sign of algae. That would require doing a SLAM Process. Floc & clarifiers only make matters worse and do NOT kill algae.

Be sure to bookmark our Pool Care Basics for lots of great info.

Thanks so much for your help :)
Just reading about the SLAM process…hopefully that works (still need a good tester but I’ll get that asap)

Make sure your multiport valve is on filter vs recirculating, assuming everything is OK with the filter junk should not come out of the returns. I think you need to put the valve to rinse once you either backwash or vacuum to waste to clear the pipes. Get some liquid chlorine and add it to the pool. I'm not sure what you can get in Canada but get the Taylor K-2006 if you can't get a TF kit.

Hi all - thanks for all the advice. I did the SLAM process and pool is clearest it’s been all summer. Now I have a NEW problem. I’ve been vacuuming to waste to get rid of the junk, but want to go back to vacuuming in the filter setting. Tried that today, and debris just spewed back out of the jets. I’ve backwashed, rinsed etc, AND had sand replaced in June. I’m thinking the pool guy would’ve checked o-rings, gaskets etc at that time, so I don’t think there is a problem with any of those things. I feel like I don’t have the proper pipes opened or closed because I don’t have a handle on how all that works. Thanks in advance for any advice
