I installed a pool last year 25k ingorund and a friend raved about the fusion 2. I was not on here at the time and have since seen everyone tells you to run away from it. So far I’ve had no issues but my cya levels were high this year due to tricolor tablets, around 60ppm. I recently got that down to 45ppm and still using the mineral cartridge but using liquid chlorine now and keeping it about 1-2ppm. I started this year off without the cartridge and only chlorine like most suggest on here but switched back to the cartridge because I spent around $100 in chlorine in first month trying to maintain 5ppm after I shocked it to about 20ppm and I also have an auto cover so it doesn’t see sun unless we’re using it. My main question is why I went through so much chlorine? Is it the high cya and I didn’t slam it high enough. Thoughts on this. Thanks

Welcome to TFP!!!

First, remove the mineral cartridge. It adds metals, which cause a myriad of issues.

June is the highest UV month of the year. I understand the fear of CYA, but a CYA of 60 is just fine in June.

We don't measure CYA between the lines on the tube. If you see a CYA of what you think is 45, always round up to the next 10...your CYA is 50.

So the issue is that you either1)don't have enough CYA to protect your FC, or 2) you have algae, even if you can't see it.

Let's rule out the algae, so tomorrow night, do this test. Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Report back the results of your OCLT.

While you have the time between now and OCLT results, re-read the SLAM process. It is a process, not a one time "shock" to 20ppm. Link-->SLAM Process

We got you, do the test tomorrow...
