Hey, I'm Ted, I've been maintaining my own pool for several years, previously mostly cheap aboveground pools. Due to underground wires and pipes, I can't install an in-ground pool where I would want it, so a couple of years ago, I got myself a decent 24ft metal-walled above-ground pool. Since purchasing the pool, I re-plumbed it using a mix of hard PVC and flex, added a CL220 chlorinator and I am currently building a large half-wraparound deck for it.

I also designed my own pool controller using a mix of industrial controls with an off-the-shelf SONOFF 4-ch controller to run the pump and pool lights. This is all in a nice waterproof outdoor enclosure hardwired to the pump. I can set schedules and it even integrates with my home automation system.

I usually don't have any problems with my pool chemistry as I keep a pretty close eye on it and have a pretty good understanding of how to fix most problems.

I actually joined the site because I discovered that it exists and there are a lot of really good conversations that come up regularly in my Google searches.

welcome! so much good info on this site. be careful of tablet chlorine - learn about the relationship between chlorine and CYA. get a recommended test kit and really understand your pool.

Thanks for the advice, I have an older pro-style kit that I am probably going to replace with a Taylor in not too long.

I generally keep a very close eye on the tablets. I only added the chemical feeder because I didn't like sticking tablets in the skimmer basket or using floats - I only just added it and I dialed it back quite a bit so it doesn't interfere with anything else. I've maintained crystal-clear water in my pools for years with good numbers according to my current kit - pH, Alkalinity, Chlorine, and Stabilizer are all ideal at the moment.

I still have a relatively large supply of tablets (>50 lbs) that I want to use up before I do anything else. I also have a stash of all the basic chemicals I need. I got mildly pool stored when I bought the new pool, but I'm correcting that as I learn more.

one think I miss about tabs....so many funny/cute floaters out there now. I have my Grandfather's old blue floater from the 70s that I keep for sentimental reasons. LOL
