Mustard Algae type 2

I think something else may be going on here.

I was in the pool this evening. Same brown spots on the floor. Not slimy and they just dust away.

But to the weird part. The water feels funny. I can't really explain it but something is odd about it. Also I noticed if I took my hand underwater and clenched a loose fist, then opened up my hand as it was coming out of the water the surface tension started to form somewhat of a bubble. It would not form into a bubble but the water sort of made a film from the pad of my thumb to my finger tips as they were opening. I know, hard to explain and probably harder to understand but very strange. Then this happened, my son was saying the water tastes bad. Sure enough, I took some in my mouth and it was bad.

PH 7.8 - 8.2, hard to tell at night in the house.
CYA was 40 my last check. 9 days ago. A couple inches of water replacement since then.

FC seems to have dropped a bit more today than usual. No bathing load and a cloudy day.

64 oz 10% liquid chlorine added to bring the FC up to 17.

I'm thinking that there is some type of contamination in the water that's not going to go away.

The bad taste is a bad sign.

If you can safely do so, it might be time to consider a drain and refill.

Pool drained and refilling now. There was a few inches of water left from the pump. When it rains it pours and this morning it was pouring. I am not home and was not there when the pump finished. I would think the last few inches of water would get diluted enough with the refill.

I added 1 pound of cya as that is all I had on hand. I did notice some spots but a decent amount of what looked like a white or gay powder on the floor. Dead agea I assume?. Could there have been something in the water that was causing the chlorine not to work, besides cya?. And once it was diluted with the drain and refill the chlorine had taken care of it? Remember, the sump pump left about 3 inches of the old water in the pool.

I had the filter on for 2 hours last night with the addition of the chlorine. I turned the filter back on this morning with the addition of the cya and will let it run its normal daily cycle now.

I am starting to think they are some sort of very fine sediment that passes through the filter. The spots start forming about an hour or 2 after vacuuming. I do not think algae can grow that fast??? Can it?

I noticed one night that if I pointed the return more towards the floor it seems the spots do not form nearly as much or as fast. But then the surface does not get skimmed as well.

I was hoping the cartridge filter would do a better job of filtering out any fine particles.

This new filter does not have a multiport valve like the Hayward sand filter does so I can not vacuum to waste.

But even if it is sediment then most of it should have been pumped out when I emptied the pool on Tuesday.

The only constants at this time is the water source, city water, liner, ladder and hoses. The water itself was changed, the filter was changed and I am no longer using "bleach" but 10% Liquid Chlorine.

Like I said in the first post, I have been dealing with this for 9 years and am at a loss.
