Multiple species of Algae and runaway pH

I have a 24 foot (round) above-ground that holds circa 16,000 gallons. Just now though it has a major algae bloom (deep green) and I can't
get my pH down anymore. It is so high (pH) now that it no longer registers on my test-strips and I'm thinking that maybe I should forget trying to balance the chemistry for now and just go straight to adding 4 cups (two pounds) of cal-hypo today, and another 4 cups tomorrow, give it a vac, and then add sodium bisulfate once I can see the bottom of the pool again. The last time I added pH down it did absolutely nothing.

First thing to do is get one of the TFP recommended test kits. Reliable test is important and strips just don't cut it. Link-->Test Kits Compared

I would add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per day until your kit arrives. You need a kit to follow the SLAM process to clear the pool of algae.

When you get your kit post up a full set of numbers and start the SLAM process to clear the algae. Link-->SLAM Process

We recommend you use muriatic acid to lower pH if needed, after you get results with your kit.
