Moved from DE to Zeofiber

I have a Hayward Perflex EC65 and just finished cleaning it exhaustively. Feels good man :)

Anyway, after the cleaning, I precoated with Zeofiber as I decided to go in that direction away from DE. The timing was perfect as the bag of DE left by the previous pool owner had just finished completely to the last scoop!

Since this is just after the pool opening for this season, there's a lot of fine debris in the pool that I'm expecting the filter to clean up. As expected, the pressure rises pretty quickly (+10psi in 2-3 hours). I have bumped it a couple of times today already.

Should I be backwashing it already?

Also how much Zeofiber should I add in a backwash?

Finally, I have a couple of socks dissolving my CYA granules (CYA level was close to 0), so ideally wanted to not backwash - does it matter?

Easy one first: backwash when needed. That's why we recommend the sock method for CYA. Most bottles say pour it in the skimmer, and then you have to wait for it to dissolve lest you backwash the granules away. You can do it whenever you want worry-free.

The packaging should say how much fiber to add compared to DE. Use whatever charge the filter says multiplied by the factor.

It's my understanding that on your style filter, you bump when pressure rises. When it starts to get annoying because it rises too soon again, you wash it all out because it's saturated.

DE particles look like shredded kitchen sponges shrunken to microscopic size. When the holes get full of dirt, that's it. Time to replace it.
