Minimum FC vs Target FC - Chlorine/CYA Chart confusion

Thanks to the guys here, my pool is looking clean and is algae free so far.

When I am pouring chlorine every day, I was wondering how much I need to get the FC to?

Per 50 CYA, Min FC is 4 and Target FC is between 6-8.

Logic says, before putting more chlorine, the FC should be at least 4 left in pool and after adding liquid chlorine, the FC should be at least 6, if not 8 (hot sunny AZ days). Was I correct in my assumption?

Thanks

Never let FC go below minimum for your CYA - [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]

I would suggest you target on the high end of the range - if yours is 6-8, shoot for 8. It's going to be around 105°+ for the next week or more. You are probably going to lose 2+ ppm per day - and if you have a heavy swimmer load you will lose more. If a lot of swimmers are expected, dose to add 2-4 ppm before they arrive and check the FC after they leave.

The idea is that you should never let FC below the minimum number and always aim to keep the number between the recommended range. If you test and the number is above recommended then do nothing. If below, then add. I don’t like my number anywhere close to the minimum. I prefer to be on the higher range of recommended. This is mostly because I have a lot of stuff that gets blown into the pool all the time.

Makes sense and will go for higher number.

Got it. Thanks

My pool service seems to add enough chlorine into the pool so that there is more than the required minimum on the day a week later, taking the chlorine loss into account. The pool had 10-11ppm three days ago and is 9ppm today while the minimum needed is only 5 (CYA: 60ppm).
