I know calcium doesn’t matter for my vinyl pool, but I do have a heater. Every year when I open, my calcium is at 50. I use Cal hypo to slam until the water passes criteria, and it brings the calcium up to the 150 range and I call it close enough.
This year I switched from my K 2006 kit to a TF 100 pro salt. The calcium was 50 when I opened and it started slamming using Cal hypo, per usual. The calcium just wasn’t going up though. It was up to 80 and I was done with my slam. I was worried about the heater so I bought 8 pounds of calcium hardness increaser and put it in yesterday.
Tested this morning and the calcium still wasn’t high enough. It was at 100. That’s when I noticed that the multiplier I should’ve been using was 25, not 10. The K 2006 kit gives directions for both a 25 ml sample and a 10 mm sample. TF kit only gives instructions for a 10 mL sample. I’m a retired mathematician, so I certainly should have been able to figure this out, but last September, last time I tested last yr, was a long time ago. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it.
So, calcium is actually 250. I can live with that. I always have to adjust the water level through the year. Draining after a heavy rain, adding tap well water, with zero calcium when it hasn’t rained in a while. So probably by the end of the year it’ll be in the 150 range anyway.
The water is slightly cloudy, when it was crystal clear yesterday. There also is stuff floating on the water that is translucent. I suspect it’s undissolved calcium flakes.
Do you guys agree that I’m fine and the cloudiness will go away over the weekend?
