I've been searching on the forum, but cannot find the info.

What is the maximum level of FC that is still okay for your pool equipment? Is anything above SLAM-level considered a bad idea?
Asking this because I'm going on vacation and wondering if I can just add liquid bleach for those 10 days that I am gone. CYA = 50, so SLAM would be 20ppm. For example, if my pool uses about 4ppm per day would it be okay to bring it to 40ppm? No one will use the pool during those days obviously.

Thanks! ;)

As FC increases, so does the loss rate from UV, it is not constant. So, when your up at shock levels of FC, your FC loss rate is proportionally higher than when you are at target levels. So, if you add all that FC at once, it will simply dissipate in the first few days and then you'll down near target levels. A few more days after that and you'll be below minimums.

You would be better off bumping your FC up to shock levels and then putting a puck floater in your pool to maintain the FC levels while you're away. Yes, this will add CYA but that's the "cost of doing business". When you get back you can measure your CYA and then drain some water to restore it to 50ppm.

The other option is to find a trustworthy neighbor or family member to dose the pool while you're away.
