Manual Pool Vacuum on Suction Cleaner Outlet

Greetings Everyone!

I plan on vacuuming my pool here shortly and I do not have the plate that fits over the skimmer basket for the hose to attach... I do, however, have a suction outlet that would normally be used for a suction side cleaner. Can the hose be hooked up to that outlet for manual vacuuming? I could see the trouble if I were to be cleaning up large amounts or large size of debris that could damage plumbing/filter, but I would only be sucking up smaller bits of sand and knocked loose pebbles. Anything larger is already scooped out. Is there a danger I am missing?

If you can make it work, use it.

I don't use a skimmer plate and I don't really worry because I get very little blown-in debris. Just dust mostly. If I had a mass of leaves that might clog the underground pipes, I'd figure out something else.

I wouldn't worry about it either - if your hose fits, you shouldn't have problems with small debris. There are adapters if your hose doesn't quite fit, and if you want to be extra careful you could buy an in-line basket for your cleaner (though at that point it may save you time/hassle/money to just buy the skimmer plate).

Thanks, jweck! Yep... I'll get a plate if I ever have anything I'm worried about going through. Today I'm just trying to avoid having to leave the house... hehe!
