Hi - I maintained my pool all year with TFP guidelines...closed it that way as well. I had a peak under the safety cover and the water looks clear.

That said, should I SLAM anyways to make sure the water is good to start? We are not in a rush to get in the pool right away (live in Canada), so it is quite cool (we do have a heater).

If the direction is to SLAM, I will top get my levels (PH, Alk, CYA, Calc) on point first, then will slam. And depending on my OCLT, I will end the SLAM (hoping it is short).

Thoughts?

I always perform a SLAM at opening. It usually goes quickly.

Even though the water is clear at opening, there’s usually a lot of dead worms, bugs, and some debris that made its way under the cover over the winter (yuck!). By doing a SLAM, I know I’m starting the season off with a clean, properly sanitized pool.
