So.........to give a little background - Pool had water go in it for the 1st time on Memorial Day last year. I live in South Florida, so pool temps are typically mid to high 80's already. Last year in Aug through October I remember some 90's....(i do have a heat pump/chiller to help keep it in the high 80's during those hot times). Pool got as low as 70 during cold fronts.
All last summer, I battled a multitude of problems:
1 - Algae
2 - Algae
3 - Algae
Now, I knew I needed to SLAM and I did multiple times, but as soon as my Free Chlorine got to around 7, I would start forming green algae on the shallow ends and sun deck (brushing would push up green "dust"). Couple of things I decided....the always HOT down here, and the "finish" i have (lots of nooks and cranys) attribute to the excessive algae. Not sure if true or not......
Also, I went through cases and cases of muriatic acid to keep pH down. I just attributed it to the new Pebble Tec Brillance Pool Finish driving it up. Also, I know an SWG will raise it also. And as i was treating the pH constantly, I thought I needed to maintain my Total Alkalinity also (as it was always dropping).
So for almost a year, I tried to maintain a constant - as follows:
FC - anywhere from 30 to 6 (depending before, after, or during SLAM
CC - 0 to .25 (1 drop to remove pink)
TA - I maintained anywhere from 80 - 110 utilizing Sodium Bicarb
CH - 300 - 350 with little to no intervention
CYA - 60 - 80 with some addition of stabilizer (not a lot)
Salt - Constant at 3800
So - like I said, I was constantly battling the pH and TA. I was pretty much adding almost 1/4 gallon of muriatic every day to drop a almost 8.0 to 7.4
I was also adding a bunch of Sodium Bicarb about once a week to maintain a 80 - 110
To be continued in a seperate post so you can digest..................
