Hi all,

Just opened pool and Went from a swamp to clear water in 4 days using your methods. Thank you all for this great info. Now that I’m almost there. My TA is reading 40 and ph is around 6.8. I added around 20 ounces of Washing Soda this afternoon and just tested again. (About 3-4 hour span). Results still came back with same numbers. Does is take a while for the TA and PH to rise?

I suggest adding baking soda to raise your TA to 60 or 70. Then if the pH still needs raising use borax. Washing soda can be a bit erratic when coming from low pH and TA.

It should show up in an hour or so with the pump running. Be sure it is not sitting on the bottom of the pool. Brush some to be sure it is mixed.

Take care.

If you're at the bottom of the scale, your pH could be a lot lower than 6.8.

Raise the TA a bit first. Then if you still need to mess with pH, do that. When you have really low TA, pH adjustments can get pretty violent -- meaning it calls for 7 ounces and you add 8 and end up off the top of the scale!
