I did find some errors in my original calculation so the Venturi is close to 0.6 PSI better than the total head loss so that may be enough to help with the suction while keeping the head loss about the same with the skimmer. But it sounded like your skimmer experience was just marginal.

I am glad though that it wasn't a waste of your time and you saw at least some benefit.
