No I did not drain my pool. In the Fall when I closed my pool I thoroughly cleaned my filter and brominator- and repeated this again in the Spring before adding the chlorine tabs. I had no problems last summer.
I'm not the bromine expert around these parts (I'm not even a chlorine one), and hopefully someone else will chime in.. but I was under the impression that "once a bromine pool, always a bromine pool", and all the chlorine is doing is converting bromide back into bromine.
@PoolStored wouldn't OP need to do a drain to truly convert to chlorine?
Generally, yes. OP indicated they converted last year and used tabs. It will eventually outgas as bromine or get filtered as combined bromine, but it may take some months. What you will notice in the meantime is that you may have a higher than normal chlorine demand during the day from bromine breakdown from sunlight. You probably just need to wait this out and when you see the daily demand return to normal you'll know that you've got chlorine back again.
However, they dosed to 9, had a long swim day and tested 4 at the end of the day. Seems like normal usage to me for a chlorine pool.
