Liner shrunk when empty

My first post 2024
Drained my oval 12 x 32 to do wall repair. Took 5 days to drain in hot sun. When started filling up the liner tore away and shrank!! Need new liner now? But how do we not let it shrink installing 20 year old pool. Yes liner held up until now June2024 2024

Your signature isn't filled so I'll assume it's an inground pool. Liners don't usually shrink but if the pool was drained the liner may have slipped so when refilling it is when you've noticed.

Yep, you need a new liner. Sounds like the one that tore was the original one installed 20 years ago? That’s a nice long run for a liner.
