I see that the Air Supply Cyclone blower is kind of the go-to for this job, but the $350 price tag is a bit much for something that I'll use for 5 minutes a year. I don't have a massive amount of height to blow this water, only a few feet. I've tried it with my shop vac before and was able to get to it work with half of the lines. Is there a larger shop-vac that people have used with success or do I just need to plunk down the cash for the cyclone?

Here's my experience with a Cyclone. Last year I closed by myself for the first time and used a shop vac and a compressor to try and blow out my lines. It worked ok on my returns, but I never got the main drain to blow, and I worried about it all winter. I found a used Cyclone on eBay this summer (for about $300) and I bought it. When I got it I stuck the hose in the supply line at the pump, and it blew out the main drain in 5 seconds.
To me, the Cyclone cost was the same as paying someone else to close it each year, I'll have that blower for as long as I own the pool, and I'll have peace of mind knowing the lines are really blown out.

I used a $650 commercial backpack leaf blower that cost more, but wasn't a one trick pony. At $250 a closing, maybe even more this year, the cyclone will be free by the end of year 2.
For reference, a local company is now charging a minimum closing fee of $325 just to blow out lines and close them. Not including any chemicals or putting on cover. For that, price goes up to $475. I close my own and use a cyclone blower.
