I live in Toronto where in the winter we typically get a few days where the temperature gets down to -15C. I use an SWCG for sanitizing my pool, but I keep a few jugs of liquid chlorine around, I use refillable 10L containers from my local pool shop. Since I built my pool about 16 years ago I leave these in my unheated pool cabana through the winter, and I use them in the spring, before my SWCG has kicked in and they still seem to sanitize.

Is this considered a bad practice?

You don't have to worry about heat degradation, but you will experience some degradation from age. Is it 12.5%?
No matter - if it still works for you, seems like it's just fine.

My leftovers sit in my unheated garage that picks up a couple degrees from the house, but is a moot point when it's 10 below and windy.

In the spring, I'm happy if it raises the FC at all. If it's even close, it's all gravy.
