Thoughts? Water is pretty clear, but not crystal clear.
I added recommended LC to bring FC up to 11 and added more MA to bring PH down to 7.8. That should lower my TA, right? I sound like a chemist. 😂
With draining and replacing by degrees, due to high water table, CYA is down from over 400.
With all the city water I’m adding, is there something else I should be doing to get the other values in range, or do you guys think I should I wait until I get the CYA down to 50 worry about it?
My plan is to drain and refill some again Sunday, time permitting.
Sweet Dixie has lost her pool privileges. I will be putting up a gate on the deck stairs to keep her out. She loves to go swimming in the nasty pond and then jump in the pool for a bath. Darn dog.

Excuse the mess in the picture. With the high CYA I was bringing LC to the pool in boxes and I somewhat let things go. Clean up is this weekend!

Others will come along with finer points but I say you're doing great. What a pain losing all that water, ugggh. Well done getting your CYA down from 400, wow, and glad to hear you're working to get it lower. 80 CYA is a bit of an upper limit.

In your location, I'd be surprised if your calcium doesn't go up over time once you start draining less, but for a plaster pool a bit more calcium is a good idea. Should happen on its own due to evaporation after you're down knocking down your CYA.

If you want to have sparklypoolitis, you may need to check for active algae via Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and/or consider filtration as well as sanitation.

What kind of filter do you have?

An OCLT is a good idea. I was wondering if I should wait until my CYA levels are a bit more under control, or does it matter?
It is a Hayward sand filter. I am using the filter to drain to waste and then using the auto filler and the water hose to replace.

Keeping the FC at 10% or 12% of CYA is good for keeping an even keel, but if it has algae, it won't get better. The cure is a SLAM, and that will take:

1. CYA max 80 (better lower)
2. After enough water has been exchanged to get CYA down, then SLAM pH is started out at 7.2 - 7.5 (I personally prefer 7.2)
3. Start SLAM - FC 40% of CYA or 32 ppm FC at CYA 80, maintained until all algae is killed. The initial charge is quite a lot. Overall, you'll lose more to sunshine than at lower CYA, but if the algae quanity is mild, you won;t be adding any more than you would at lower CYA. There's also a short FC adding holiday after the SLAM.

If any of what I said is things you haven't learned or read about, let me know
