Landscaping under a screen

Hello, I'm hoping to get some suggestions and pictures from anybody with more knowledge than me.

My pool is almost completed, and we have 2 planter areas built into the decking, under a screen in Central Florida. I was thinking of som kind of small trees, with some ground cover. Suggestions?

My folks had wonderful Rosemary plants growing around their pool along with palms and cacti inside their birdcage in The Villages, FL.

I would wonder if you would want high plantings for privacy, or perhaps something useful like the herbs, or flowers. You're in FL- everything grows! LOL
