Keeping pool closed for the summer.

Hello! I have a 18,000 above ground pool. I have treated my pool with the method recommended in this site for the last 2 year with good success. I am wondering opinions on not opening my pool this summer. I currently have a 2.5 year old and am due with my second child in June. I am the primary care taker for my pool because of the hours my husband works and with the other outside work he has to keep up on. I just don’t see how I will manage the pool this summer and will most likely be putting money into something we will not use this year. I closed my pool occurring to the methods listed on the site. My winter cover still seems to be sealed very well. I am planning on draining the excess water that has collected on top of the winter cover. Any opinions are great let appreciated!

Two options, let it go and clear up the mess next year or maintain it easy like

Polyquat 60(or is it 40) algaecide will help keep the green away, I don't know much about it but this is the only recommend use of it.

I would open the cover up a little bit and test the FC, dose it up the shock level and brush it around. Try to do this monthly or better to keep the green away

KCStoffer, congratulations on your growing family! You could probably let it go and deal with it next year. But if you feel like it, is would be best to pull the cover and SLAM it one more time, add the polyquat 60 and have hubby brush it really good and put it back to bed. It'd be a good idea to do it one more time in late September and it would be ready for you next year. Of course, this is all dependant on how you feel being so close to delivery! Good luck with your new baby!

If it was me I would open the pool. What 2.5 year old wouldn't love to go swimming. Nice a relaxing for a pregnant mother too! In my opinion it is to much of a hassle to let it go. Plus really how much time do you really spend cleaning up your pool?

Now that my pool is open and clear I spend no more than 10 - 15 minuets and typically do it as I am walking in the door to the house. I have a long driveway with a rear entrance to the pool and my house :) In my situation my wife typically has it done because the kids are swimming after school and I have taught her to check the skimmers for critters before the kiddos get it. At that time she will typically reach in and clear basket out.

but my normal after work routine is:
Check and clear skimmers if needed
If I see large debris on the surface I get it with my net.
right now I am checking chlorine every other day.

Sunday typically before church I will do all of the above and vacuum if needed. Full water testing and record in log book.

To me it is much easier to keep the pool going than have to fight green water. No worry about stains and bugs.
