My pool is ozone and i use bleach. I'm convinced the ozone really isn't doing much of anything. When the ozone generator finally goes out, I do not plan to replace it. I've assumed I'll just stick with bleach. The thing I hear about SWG is that it is so corrosive to things around the pool area/back patio. For those of you that say SWG is the only way to go, are you having any corrosion issues? If that concern is overblown, I would seriously consider SWG just for ease of maintenance.

When you are away, it is okay to use some pucks in a floater to help maintain chlorine levels. The added CYA is minimal unless you travel often. When I was away longer than 1 week I had a neighbor refill the pucks if needed.

I went with a SWG mainly because of the convenience. Once the saltwater generator is up and running, it becomes more about monitoring chlorine levels and upping and downing the percentage to maintain the proper levels. The only chemical I'm currently adding to my pool on a regular basis is Muriatic acid to control ph and that's about 1/2 a gallon a week. It does cut down on the trips to the poolstore, Walmart, or HD for chemicals.
I have had minimal corrosion! By minimal I mean my metal poles have some rust, but no more than I had when I was chlorine!
It's absolutely about convenience and choice! In my situation I will always be SWG due to the low maintenance and cost!!

I am by no means a pool pro, my first pool ever was only last year. I decided to go with a SWG setup with an INTEX and holy smokes, I could not be happier. It is virtually maintenance free! I do not have to add jack diddly squat to the pool, except my initial bags of salt and maybe very little salt every once in awhile if it rains heavily. I do not have to test the water or anything. I did not want to fiddle around with addling bleach and all of that other non-sense that comes with a non SWG pool. I only had one small issue last year, we went on vacation for about a week and I came back to a pretty filthy, green pool. I turned the SWG on and within 1 day it was back to crystal clear

Figure Salt Water Generator = $1,000 (installed yourself) + Bags of Salt. My 36,000 gallon pool went through 23 bags of Salt at $8.50 per for a total of $200.00 to get it up to its initial level. After that, it should be about a bag or two per year. Keep in mind that you will not need to add any other form of chlorine going forward - maybe a gallon here or there if the SWG can't keep up or if the swimmer load is abnormally heavy.
On my 3rd year of SWG and all my outdoor furniture is metal. I have just a couple of small spots with rust, but even those are in weird spots that have never contacted the salt water. We always sit in the chairs after swimming and I have never once rinsed the furniture. The sun is doing a lot more damage to the finish.
I keep seeing how saltwater generators are really expensive. It looks like I can get an aqua trol for under $600 for a 18 by 33 Pool. Am I missing something?
