Hi from New York! We are in the very early stages of having an inground pool installed. I found this amazing site while doing my research and now I'm hoping you can help me pick between pool quotes and/give me more information before we choose. We were getting three, but I just didn't like one of them, so sratched them off the list already. So here are the two quotes so far:

Pool will be vinyl 16x32 rectangle with 8' deep end

quote 1: Design resin wall system w/concrete I-beams, bond beam
4" concrete bottom
3' broom finish deck (we are planning to upgrade to stamped concrete with additional footage)
CP-2 white aluminum concrete receptor coping.
2' radius inside corner steps - white (I think all four corners)
SD-80 glass media filter w/1 h.p. pump, dual main drains, skimmer, & 5 return ports
Pool guard alarm system
Ladder, step rail, vacuum kit, safety rope, solar cover, & pool demo

All mechanicals are Pentair. We are upgrading to salt water system and he quoted Pentair IC-20,
single speed, but after reading around here already know I should increase to variable speed
Also added Mastertemp 200 heater w/ bypass & slab
Intellibrite LED lite

quote 2: Permabrace support system every 3'
3" aluminum receptor coping
Inside corner steps (I think just one corner)
3' concrete deck w/fiber mesh-saw cut expansion joints (we are planning to upgrade this)
Pentair sand filter
Pentair variable speed
5G color light
250,000 BTU heater
Safety cover
U.V sanitizer (no extra charge, it's a special there running now)
2 main drains
4 directional return fittings
2 stair hydrojets
Wide skimmer w/mount
Pool alarm.

Please give me me your thoughts on the above quotes!!! TIA!!

Hi, welcome to TFP! I'm going to answer inside your quote as best I can. Is there a major cost difference between quotes?

2' radius inside corner steps - white (I think all four corners) Are the steps fiberglass inserts or will they be covered by the liner?
SD-80 glass media filter w/1 h.p. pump, dual main drains, skimmer, & 5 return ports I would skip the glass media filter. A sand, DE, or cartridge filter appropriately sized should be just fine.

quote 2: Permabrace support system every 3'
3" aluminum receptor coping
Inside corner steps (I think just one corner) Same question, liner covered or insert
3' concrete deck w/fiber mesh-saw cut expansion joints (we are planning to upgrade this)
Pentair sand filter What size
Pentair variable speed
5G color light
250,000 BTU heater
Safety cover
U.V sanitizer (no extra charge, it's a special there running now) And worth exactly what you paid for it in an outdoor pool. They will say you use less chlorine, but that is negligible at best. I'd ask for a credit toward the SWG.
2 main drains
4 directional return fittings
2 stair hydrojets
Wide skimmer w/mount
Pool alarm.

Thanks for the feed back, in quote one they are fiberglass step inserts and on quote two the steps will be liner covered...is one way better than the other? If I not able to get credit for the UV sanitizer....should I just tell them I just don't want it? Or should I take it just because it's free? My thought for saying no to it, is if it's not worth anything then I don't want something on my pool later that could break and compromise my pool or add expenses that I wouldn't otherwise need down the road. Thanks again!

I would just say no thanks to the UV sanitizer. I don't know if vinyl covered steps are better than fiberglass or visa versa. I do know that fiberglass steps can crack over time, and can leak over time. Some have reported vinyl covered steps may become slippery, but I think that is a water quality issue more than a product issue.
