Just acquired a pool. Excited to be here!

I knew absolutely nothing about pools before I bought a home with one this past June.

I got up to speed pretty quickly on cleaning the pool and filter, but I was intimidated by the chemistry aspect and put it off for about a month.

I went to the local pool store which has always done the testing for this pool, and did what they told me (add salt and acid), but I got to wondering how much I could trust them and whether I really needed to patronize them.

I went to Amazon seeking a book on pool maintenance, specifically chemistry. I almost bought the most highly rated book on the subject, but then I saw the the review rated as most helpful by other users was only 3 stars. The reviewer stated that the book wasn't much more than an overview, and that if you really wanted to know about this stuff then you should go read the Pool School, then read it again, and then ask questions on their forum. I googled Pool School, and here I am!

I generally abhor forums, but given the wealth of common-knowledge in the Pool School, and given the focus and organization, I'm genuinely excited to be here. I even signed up for a monthly $1 PayPal donation to show my thanks. I'm sure that's just a drop in the bucket, but I'm already grateful and want to give back what I can.

I can't wait to start asking my questions. :)

Welcome feuGene,

After going to Pool School take a good look at the pool chem calculator "pool math" and start playing around and get familiar with it. This alone is worth supporting this site as it will save you big $$.
