Hello,

My housesitter does not want to care for the pool while we are gone in July. (No, I can't get a different house sitter. I did try). How do I close the pool for 3 or 4 weeks in July? When I return in August, I don't want to start with a green pool.

Thanks,
Dusty

Short of getting a SWG and a programmable/timed pump or someone to take care of it, closing a pool in the dead of summer and ignoring it for a month is likely a recipe for a green swamp when you return.

Would the winter closing chemicals and a winter cover help at all?
Cover would help, but water temperature is very different. FC consumption will be greater than winter.
Do you have a neighbor kid you could hire to empty skimmers and dump FC? Or a local company that at worst, use shock/pucks?

You could cover it, raise to SLAM and add Poly 60 algaecide assuming it's algae-free when you close it, but with water temps in the high 70's, low 80's when that FC is gone, algae is going to set in. Is your pump on a timer or do you intend for that to be completely off for 3-4 weeks too?
